Our Story

HPRF Founder
Emily Bishop

We began in 1976 as the Port Royal Bicentennial Historical Committee (PRBHC), founded and chaired by Emily Bishop, Port Royal’s longest serving (30+ years) postmaster.  The PRBHC’s focus was to plan and implement the 1976 Bicentennial celebration of Port Royal and to establish long-range goals that would perpetuate Port Royal’s historical data . Once these goals were established and the Bicentennial celebration complete, the committee dissolved and phased into the Historic Port Royal Foundation (HPRF).

To protect, preserve, interpret and promote the history of the Town of Port Royal.

Marcy Roy

Marcy Roy moved to Port Royal in 2020 from Minneapolis and could not think of a finer place to live! She spends her time working with the HPRF’s Board and Docents. She appreciates HPRF’s volunteer “family” and all they do; organizing events, renovating and moving into a new museum and visitor center, building displays, preserving Port Royal’s history and above all making folks feel welcome in Port Royal while providing them information about the area and telling them about Port Royal’s rich history. Marcy is as retired IT manager/consultant and has 2 sons.

MIKE

My family moved to Port Royal in 1959. I've lived here my whole life. I went to Port Royal Elementary and participated in scouting at Port Royal Methodist Church. I've been involved with Historic Port Royal Foundation since 1999. I was the chairperson on the committee for the first museum of Historic Port Royal Foundation and I've been on the Board of Directors since that time. What I like most about Port Royal are the people and there's always an event going on.

Gail

I came to Port Royal 20 years ago and it quickly became my home after I married a “local”. I love the strong sense of community  we have, our walkable streets and mostly the wonderful people who have chosen to call PR home.

I’ve been involved with HPRF for 6 years. I love telling the story of our town and meeting new people.

Gail is also the docent coordinator.
