Samuel Murray Memorial Scholorship

Sam Murray (1940-2022) was an educator, school principal, town council member for 17 years and served sixteen terms as mayor of Port Royal, South Carolina (1995-2019). Sam received the Order of the Palmetto, the states highest civilian award in 2022. Sam first and foremost was an educator.

The Sam Murray scholarship was established to support Beaufort County students planning to attend USCB majoring in Education. The first scholarship was awarded in 2024. With financial support from local businesses and individuals, the museum hopes to offer scholarships in the future.
